Electron-impact ionization of atomic hydrogen at 2 eV above threshold

چکیده
The convergent close-coupling method is applied to the calculation of fully differential cross sections for ionization of atomic hydrogen by 15.6 eV electrons. We find that even at this low energy the method is able to yield predictive results with small uncertainty. As a consequence, we suspect that the experimental normalization at this energy is approximately a factor of two too high. PACS numbers: 34.80.Bm, 34.80.Dp Short title: LETTER TO THE EDITOR

We present here cross section results for ionization of hydrogen atoms by electron impact at 1eV, 0.5eV and 0.3eV energy above threshold, calculated in hyperspher-ical partial wave theory. The results are in excellent agreement with the available semiclassical results of Crothers et al [ 2002 ] for these energies. Considering its success above 1eV energy [ Das et al (2003) ] for various kinemat...
متن کاملElectron-impact ionization of atomic hydrogen from near threshold to high energies
Abstract. Application of the convergent close-coupling (CCC) method to electronimpact ionization of the ground state of atomic hydrogen is considered at incident energies of 15.6, 17.6, 20, 25, 27.2, 30, 54.4, 150 and 250 eV. Total through to fully differential cross sections are presented. Following the analysis of Stelbovics [submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. (http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/physics/9905...

Time-dependent close-coupling and time-independent distorted-wave methods are used to calculate the electron-impact double-ionization cross section for the 1s22s2 ground configuration of the B+ atomic ion. The direct double-ionization cross section is calculated using the non-perturbative close-coupling method between the direct double-ionization threshold of 63.1 eV and the 1s ionization thres...
متن کاملTime-dependent close-coupling calculations of the triple-differential cross section for electron-impact ionization of hydrogen
The formulation of the time-dependent close-coupling method is extended to allow the calculation of electron-impact triple-differential cross sections for atoms. The fully quantal method is applied to the electronimpact ionization of hydrogen at an incident energy of 54.4 eV for various scattering geometries. The timedependent close-coupling results are found to be in very good agreement with t...

The near-threshold evolution of electron-impact ionization of hydrogen is revealed with measurements of the angular and energy correlations of the outgoing electrons down to 0.05 eV. The single-, double-, and triple-differential cross sections in the perpendicular plane are measured simultaneously using a dual wedge-and-strip detector on a single-toroidal energy analyzer, avoiding many experime...
